In a family environment that is stable or at least free from trauma, teenagers usually have the opportunity to express themselves, often even in conflict with the adults guiding them through their growth.
Unfortunately, their refugee status and the long period of waiting they experienced often prevented them from expressing their search for identity in any way.
Additionally, language barriers were a significant challenge, often exacerbated by limited literacy skills.
Target group: young refugees aged 14 to 18.
Objectives:
* Creative/Autobiographical → Providing an expressive experience to help them affirm their personal identity.
* Linguistic → Practicing the German language through creative and hands-on activities.
Final product: personalized picture book.
Educational and Creative Project: Das bin ich /This is me
First Reception Center for Unaccompanied Minors
2023/2024, Berlin
This project was born from my experience as an educator and art teacher in a reception center for unaccompanied adolescent refugees in Berlin. The goal was to provide young people with a creative and structured space where they could express themselves while also improving their German language skills.
The developmental stage of our participants brought with it a strong need for self-expression and the desire to show themselves to others, sometimes in a very impulsive way.

The goal was to offer young people a structured and creative space to foster their personal expression.
